Woke up again today to the moon shimmering on the water!
...I miss this so much
Then I walked to Farmers Market and saw this, one of the amazing employees,
the one who sells the Wisconsin Cheese, he pointed this out to me
and told me it would make a perfect photo, what a nice guy!
(I really am going to find out their names in September)
Walked home and found B. where else than out by the seawall...
I could sit and watch him sit and watch the ocean for hours...
Wow, Day 7 is showing on our faces... those two look VERY relaxed!
Today is the day we go on my free Trilogy Whale Watch!
I won in from Trilogy on a Facebook Christmas giveaway!
If you think drawings on there are a hoax, think again.
I won this right before we left and my sister won a Snorkeling Trip
from another company. Trilogy gives away something pretty much
every month; it's worth following them on Facebook.
Whales, whales and more whales!
Right from the get-go they were all around us but do you think they would breach? They teased us along with some other boats as well
for 2 hours straight! There are a lot of pictures because they tell the
story, I can't put into words how they hovered around under the water
all around us but the pictures can.
It was a lot of fun for all of us as well as the crew.
We have some video footage while these guys were up close and heading right at us and it really reminded us what a great time we had on this trip.
This raft got a real good show!
Their hearts had to be pounding!
It sure would have been a great day to have an underwater camera,
especially when they were right under us!
It was so cool, even if the pictures are not great they bring back the memories!
I kept hoping for a nice full breach in the suns rays... but no such luck.
I could stare at this view of Maui all day long....
...everyday
...at least I got a tail in the sun.
This next series of 9 photos is of a bird I was watching, I
thought it was beautiful!
They teased us right up till we left...
We had a photo taken of us by another passenger toward the end of the trip but it was not on the camera,
later we realized all the pics I took right after that in up-country were also
not on the camera. I figured out later that a setting got changed on the lens, I think by accident when I handed the camera off.
At least I have all those pictures in my heart and in my mind.
Luckily I took pictures with my phone too so I do have some to share.
This is our drive heading up to Ulupalakua Ranch Store.
We really wanted to snorkel more but were anxious to go see our friends.
I was also really looking forward to Chef Will's lamb burger.
The next three pictures are taken at the winery across the road
from the Ranch Store.
I've been in love with Cook Pines since my first trip to Maui...
...this one may well be my favorite.
On the deck at the Ranch Store waiting for our lunch.
We knew they lost a lot of trees in the hurricane, it was clear that the view up here had changed, I could see the ocean more than I could before.
We had met Chef Will and the store manager, Diana, last year
when we were here; we did not see them before ordering our food
but when we went up to pick up our order Chef Will was at the grill
and recognized me right away... by name even!
B. was so surprised and so was I!
He asked if we had seen Diana yet and when he realized we had not he went to get her and brought her over to our table.
We all talked for the longest time, they are really terrific, warm hearted people and we are blessed to know them!
Also, our lunch was delicious!!! B. had the Lamb Burger and I had the Hamburger Steak, with lamb, of course.
If you have not tried eating up here yet, consider it, well worth the drive and you see so much of beautiful Maui along the way.
They asked what we have been eating and we said mostly B. has been grilling for us at "home". Chef Will said he thinks his sweet potatoes are ready in the garden and says we are going to get some gloves and dig some
and he told us we can take some "home" to cook.
This was such a surprise, something you could not plan or buy...
...I will always remember this day.
...the first time I dug food from the earth on Maui, I hope it won't be the last.
My Sweet Potatoes!
...they are purple, by the way, I will share pics when we have them for dinner.
This is my taro!
Wow, what a blessing to have this opportunity!
This is the picture Dianna posted of me with my taro on Facebook.
Here we all are at the Ranch Store!
Diana, Me, B. & Chef Will.
How blessed we are to make friends with these wonderful folks!
Driving home I was worried we would miss the sunset... can you tell?
No worries, we got home just in time to catch it in all it's glory!
Fluffy joined me on the lanai as well.
B. was busy cooking dinner and called me in to see the sweet potato I had dug.
Isn't it beautiful?!?!
Another stunning post sunset!
B. grilled the sweet potatoes with Sweet Maui Onions, they were delicious!
Thanks Chef! (...and Chef)
The end of another very busy and FUN day on Maui!
These three pics are of my taro, I didn't cook it that day but wanted to share it
along
with the rest of this story. Chef told me to boil it two hours and let
it cool before trying to slice it and cook it. I cooled it overnight.
I
fried it the next day for lunch with Sweet Maui Onions in olive oil, I
had to be really careful so it didn't get smashed as it has a mushy sort
of texture.
It was delicious, we both liked it and thought it tasted like fried
potatoes and onions. (with a little touch of Aloha)
Next up... Kapalua Bay... fishies... and turtles...
