Day Two: New Year's Eve ~ Our Golden First Date Anniversary

Good Morning Maui!
We woke up to crashing waves.... we are home!
We wondered if we would hear the waves in bed as the bedrooms at Kulakane are in the front and not on the ocean side; no worries, you could hear the waves loud and clear!

I LOVE morning on Maui; it is probably my favorite... well, everything on Maui is my favorite. But really, I love watching the island wake up and feeling part of it all. I love watching the dark water suddenly appear and turn more blue the lighter the sky gets; I love the way the sky glows a beautiful red as the sun lights it up.
We love the view here at Kulakane; I could stare at it for hours... and did.

Today is the 31st Anniversary of our First Date!!!

....New Year's Eve 1984; now that was a good day.

We have plans to go on a 7:30 Whale watch with Teri S, her Husband, Brian and Son, Conor.

TB4 was with us that day in spirit; she and her family were going to join us but sadly had to leave the day before on a family emergency.

We somehow made it out the door on time even though we had not unpacked, we mostly pulled out what we would need the night before in an effort to avoid chaois in the early morning.
Me, B., Brian & Conor waiting for our whale watch with Captain Steve's at Mala Ramp in Lahaina.

We really were not paying attention to boarding as we were just so excited to be together on Maui and we ended up boarding last and sitting in the back of the boat; it was fun and luckily it was not that cold because Me and B. got pretty wet, just know that if you are out on a boat, you may get wet...

Our clothes were dampened but not our spirits! We we were having a blast!

 We were in GREAT company!

We did not stay out long, maybe 30 minutes; the water was rough and Captain Steve did not feel it was safe to keep us out any longer. He asked if everyone was okay with returning and let us know we could re-book at no cost.
We were able to book for the following morning!

We made plans to all go eat breakfast together at Aloha Mixed Plate... one of our favorite spots on the island, for the food as well as the view and atmosphere.

We had such a great time with Teri, Brian and Conor; I wish we could do this more often!

 T. & T!!!!

 Me and B.

We all enjoyed our breakfast but the company was my favorite.

We had plans to meet in the afternoon for a cookout in Kapalua at Teri and Brian's place, we were also having a special guest that I could not wait to meet, SW would be there to join in our New Year's Eve celebration!

B. and I headed back to Honokowai and first stop was Farmer's Market! We stocked up on all kinds of yummy fruits and veggies. I saw the guy cutting up coconut and asked it I could get one, as it turned out it was the last one of the day, I was just in time!

We shared the coconut water and then he cut it up for us to take.
If you want one you just pay for it at the counter and they will give you a straw, then you go back over and the friendly guy who is always there will cut open your coconut so you can drink it and then when you are done he will cut up the coconut meat for you to take with with you.
I think on my next trip I will make a point to learn the names of the employees at the outdoor market who have been serving me for three years. Love them!

So I also lucked out and got the last flower bouquet of the day!
They were beautiful and made a wonderful centerpiece for our Maui home.

Okay, now we could not avoid unpacking forever; we decided to get that task done before heading to Teri & Brian's.
We did the job together so it was not so bad and it felt good to be organized.

We  found a few minutes to enjoy our view before heading to Kapalua as well.
This is looking toward Lanai from our seawall.

This is a view of Kaanapali Beach Club (the one with the crane on the roof), that is where we stayed in March and we enjoyed that it was right there, we were still in the neighborhood we had come to love on our first visit.

We took a pack of our ribeyes from Costco to the get-together as well as some of our coconut and pineapple we had bought.

Teri had a beautiful spread when we got there, more than we could all eat; she is an amazing hostess and is married to an amazing host.

We hung out and visited by the lanai and even hung out around the pool for a bit visiting with some folks from Chicago. I love meeting people on Maui!

I was just thinking too bad we didn't have a group pic here but I see I am in the sliding doors...

We enjoyed our visit at Kapalua Villas, very nice and quiet with fantastic views.

Well the wait was finally over and SW arrived... a long awaited meeting for me and it could not have been better! I felt like we've known each other forever. B. and I both enjoyed our visit with her. She even brought us a treat she baked...
Talk about feeling welcome and at home!

She brought shrimp also and I don't remember what else, I just remember that we had a feast fit for a king when it was all ready.

Before dinner we all took a walk down to Oneloa Beach, Me and B. wanted to have our picture on the beach for our Anniversary!

We planned this for a long time and it may not look perfect but it was because not only were we on Maui for this special day but we were with amazing friends and we will remember this day always!

We could not be the only couple in the spotlight...

Our Host and Hostess with the mostess!!!

We went back up from the beach and the guys grilled and we enjoyed food and friends and laughter until we had to say goodbye. We had plans to go on a fireworks cruise so we needed to get back and get ready for that.

Before I move on to the fireworks I want to dedicate our New Year's Eve gathering to our very special friend, Jennifer (TB4).
Teri, SW & I spent a great deal of time sharing and reminiscing and you were in the center of it all right there in our hearts, we are all blessed to call you friend! We are sorry you had to leave early but we are so glad you were with your family where you needed to be at that time.

This was taken this Summer in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa but I thought it was fitting to include it...

B. and I left and headed back home to get ready for our fireworks cruise with Pride of Maui. We had plans to go out on this cruise with 6 friends from home; sadly two of them had a bad boat ride earlier in the day and some sea sickness squashed it for them and we went alone.

I really wanted to do something big for NYE on Maui, it was our Golden Dating Anniversary after all AND we were on Maui so I settled on the Pride of Maui Cruise and thought it would be fantastic to be out on the ocean at midnight watching the fireworks.

We drove to Maalea Harbor and were a little lost at first but found the boat and a women was set up to check us in, we had a good time visiting with a few other guests while we waited.

The ride itself was not all that we had expected but we did love being with each other on the water late at night and the fireworks were really cool!

Happy New New from Maui B. & Maui T.
Wishing you all the very best in 2015!
