The beginning of a whole new trip!
Our friends have all headed home and now it's just us, for two more weeks!
Today is our first snorkeling day and we can't wait!
I woke up to the moon shining on the water... it just doesn't get any better than this. If I woke up late on Maui I would be so sad
that I missed the quiet morning.
We are going out with Trilogy today on a Kaanapali Snorkel; we
have been looking forward to this for so long!
We bought a waterproof camera for this trip and can't wait to try it out.
It is not fancy but we were hoping to capture some nice
underwater memories.
We got a call that we would be departing from Lahaina Harbor rather than Kaanapali Beach and we were glad as it seems easier to us to
go into Lahaina and park; we don't mind the paid parking
as we just try to spend more time in town whenever
we park there. I think we had to be there around 7:45, we always
leave plenty early, we don't mind waiting if we are early but
don't like being late.
This time was really great; I have not talked a lot about the weather but
it had not been great and snorkeling conditions were not so good so far
which had been fine by us because we were doing other things up to now.
Last night's storm had the water pretty rough in spots and dirty in most spots.
After we were all on the boat Captain Caleb announced that we had been
"upgraded", he heard the snorkeling was good over at Lanai and decided
to take us there!!! Yay!!! we were so excited! We love being on the water
and love the ride over to Lanai so this was perfect!!!
B. with his million mile away look again... this makes me happy
Another bonus, the wind was perfect for sailing!
...and B. got to help hoist the sales.
This view stirs up so many emotions for me...
I have been so happy every time I have seen it, maybe that is why.
pure happiness...
The sun and the shadows give the island a different look all day long.
Whales!!!!
Arm Chair Cove! I have heard of snorkeling here but we had never done it.
I have never snorkeled from a boat and I didn't want to use the stairs, if I was going in, I was going for the adventure!
I jumped!
When I first started out I was struggling a bit with my mask and with my breathing, the captain and two of the crew members all continued to check on me after that; making sure I was feeling okay and no having any trouble.
They really do a good job of keeping track of all their guests in the water.
It was not perfectly clear but pretty good.
These are the first underwater pictures I have ever taken.
...my favorite fish!
...there he is again :)
I had fun trying out some underwater movies, you may need Dramamine...
After snorkeling Trilogy served up a delicious lunch of their famous Teriyaki Chicken, salad, corn and rolls.
They never disappoint, the captain and the crew were very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. We actually decided that one of the criteria to being hired by Trilogy must be a good sense of humor, they were great!
More Whales on the way back! This one was pretty close!
We got back to Lahaina and decided to take advantage of our paid parking and walk around town, we started with an art fair in Banyan Tree Park.
It was fantastic!
B. was extremely generous and bought me some wonderful Jewelry!
The earrings I am wearing and the pink ring below were made my an artist we met, named Devon, she was a real sweetheart! We talked a long time and left without making a purchase. As we were walking to the car to put away our snorkel gear B. said he would have bought me the pink ring... well you can bet we went back. I didn't just want the ring because I loved it, I also wanted to support this sweet girl who has worked so hard to make a life for herself
and her husband on Maui.
She was surprised and excited to see us come back later and I ended up with this wonderful pair of earrings as well.
Here is Devon's card; if you are a jewelry lover and love to support local
Maui artists you should check her out; she is a gem!
This is the card for the artist who made the two glass rings I am wearing.
I loved her work as well, but what I really liked about Devon is that
she never makes the same piece twice.
We shopped around downtown and got a few shirts for B. and I am not sure what else, we really just enjoyed having no where we needed to be.
It was getting to be late afternoon when we decided to head "home".
I don't recall what we did the rest of that evening; I think it may have been the day I did laundry and watched the sunset while B. grilled our dinner.
I guess he grilled us dinner almost everyday but this day was different
because I was actually doing something too... teehee
Lots of sunset pictures... fair warning...
One of the best things about Maui sunsets is that after they seem to have
faded away they can take on a whole new life and burst into
colors you have never seen in a sky before, this was a good night for that.
Next up is a whale watch with Trilogy and an afternoon with our friends at Ulupalakua Ranch!
