Day 17 Kapalua & Last but not least... Day 18

Day 17 Kapalua

Good Morning Maui!
This is our last full day but we don't leave until late the next night so still feels like two days to me.
I can always tell looking back at my pictures that it is getting close to end of our trip based on how many pictures I take of "everything", trees, sunrise, flowers, the ocean, the views... everything
The pictures show how I am feeling; just soaking up every last drop of Maui!

Not sure if I was up earlier or just compelled to start taking photos earlier but it was a really pretty morning!

I think Fluffy could sense we would be leaving soon...

...happiness

Don't worry little guy; we'll be here again tomorrow morning.

It was another great morning for turtle watching; I took about a hundred pictures of this little guy before he finally showed his head; not great pictures but they are great memories.

I see this guy on my lanai a lot watching for whales... oh how we love them!

My favorite Maui face!

soaking in my surroundings...

Ah... Kapalua and my favorite trees. It makes me happy every time I see them; really enjoy when we see golf on Maui and all these beautiful Cook Pines are in the background.

Heading to Kapalua Bay for some morning snorkeling.

As we were enjoying the beach that morning I received a text from a TA friend; barefoot, hubby and friends were doing the drive up to the blowhole and going to Sea House for lunch; she asked if she could stop by and meet me before lunch. YES! Of course! I was so excited and waited anxiously for their arrival.

What a wonderful visit we had! This beautiful lady tried to tell me she does not take a good selfie; I beg to differ; I think this is a great photo!
We talked a long, long while and I will never forget this first meeting and I treasure my friend with the beautiful soul!

I am ever intrigued by the foliage of the Cook Pine tree; I am always picking up 'needles' (not sure what to call them) off the ground and playing with them; they remind me of braided leather.

It was another gorgeous sunset!

While the sun was setting I had to hurry to cook up my taro that I had dug at Ulupalakua with Chef Will; I had procrastinated and now had to boil it up tonight so I could cook it and eat it tomorrow.
He had told me to simmer it for two hours and then let it cool before cooking.

Our last dinner on the lanai... love having a personal chef!

More happiness...

So ends one more day in paradise.

Day 18 ...making the most of our final day

Up super early taking photos again... we wanted today to last forever!

As we were soaking up this last morning and planning to go have one last beach/snorkel day B. asked me how I felt instead about going out on the water for one last whale watch. I was game; we called Trilogy and were able to get on the 10:00, it was about 9:15 when we booked it so we had to skedaddle.

It was a gorgeous day on the water and we saw lots of action; had a really great time and I was so glad he had this idea.

This little two man boat had a real treat; they were mugged for quite a while and it was super fun to watch; although it would have been more fun to be out there in that boat with them.

I took a ton of pictures but most I am posting were taken by B. on our little cameras; this year I am going back with a new lens and hoping for more better whale photos. In the meantime I am glad he took these and they are good for us as they tell the story of our day.

When we got back home to Kulakane it was time to eat and I cooked up my Taro, made it like fried potatoes and onions.

I also had one lone mango left and cut that up for our lunch as well.

The taro turned out great, it was really delicious!
I also savored every last bite of that mango.

The water was so beautiful that day, we enjoyed some some swimming as long as we could before having to shower and get ready to go.

It is always so bitter sweet watching the last sunset as we drive to the airport.

On the plane at OGG trying to smile.

On the plane in Phoenix, not quite as sad looking, you can still see Maui in the smiles on our faces.

We watched another gorgeous sunset as we drove home from Chicago, the ocean had been traded for fields of snow but still beautiful.

This made my day; as we were driving along all sad and missing Maui I got a text with this picture; our 7 year old grandgirl made it to show us;
a unicorn on the beach... priceless!

My new Ulupalakua hoodie came in handy the next day when we headed out to stock back up on groceries.

It had been sad missing my good friend Jennifer on this trip when she left for a family emergency on the day we were flying in...

I was so happy to finally see her in Minnesota on Valentines Day!

The big hugs were priceless were long overdo!
