Day 15: South Maui
Woke up to another gorgeous day on Maui... go figure.
I will never get tired of drinking a cup of tea and watching this island wake up.
Looking at pictures brings me back there and I can't wait to return.
It is absolutely gorgeous the way it goes from pitch dark to light and you see all the different colors appear.
...and then this guy appears; I love the way he looks when he is looking at at the ocean...
This is another one of my favorite little friends; he came to the door a lot to see if I was coming out.
We packed up that morning and headed first to Kihei; I wanted to go shopping at Kalama Village Shopping Center (I think that is the name of it)
It is an outdoor shopping center and always been one of my favorite places to shop. Mostly I wanted to get a few things from 808 Clothing Company and some souvenirs for the grandgirls.
B. is always awesome about going along shopping on Maui as long as there is a good mix of ocean time as well.
Haha... that was a put-on; his real look is in the next picture.
...now at home he would more likely have the first look if he had to wait while I shopped.
After we shopped we headed across the street to Kalama Beach Park, we have always enjoyed stopping there for a picnic lunch and to watch the ocean and the crabs on the rocks.
Of course along the way I was distracted by a beautiful flowering tree. It only had just a couple flowers left but there were beautiful petal and flowers all over the ground. I thought it looked like an Asian Tulip tree but the flowers were not as orange so I am not sure.
By the time I was done checking out the flowers this cute guy was waiting for me on the picnic bench with my lunch.
We probably hung out there about an hour or so and then decided to head further south to check out Maluaka Beach and hopefully do some snorkeling.
I was wondering where Bruce was driving to and then I realized he was taking me to the farmer's market where we had bought mangoes the year before. It was too early for them at Farmer's Market in Honokowai but we were told about these guys who are able to grow mangoes all year long. They were very expensive but work it as they were delicious!
This is at the parking lot at Maluaka, it cracked me up because of my brother Bob so I had to take a picture to send him.
It was a gorgeous day at the beach but the shore break was too strong to snorkel; Bruce attempted going in a couple times and gave up. There were other's snorkeling but when they came in they said the visibility was poor anyway. We just spent the rest of the afternoon there swimming and soaking up the views.
Some people always have to clown around...
We had a great surprise of some whales pretty close in for a while; sadly I did not get any good pictures but I have saved them anyway. It was really fun watching them, they hung out for quite a while.
If our birds at home knew about this they would sneak into our bags for sure!
After we got through the tunnel Bruce pulled over... (not that I was nagging him or anything...) so that I could try to get a good picture; I missed it by a minute or so but still got a few pretty pictures.
We woke up this morning to more turtles than we had ever seen at one time; we were seeing them here everyday but this was fantastic! The pictures don't really do it justice; they were everywhere! It was a feeding frenzy!
A little time spent hanging out on the lanai as always before we hit the road.
We went out a couple times and snorkeled but the visibility was not great at all so we mostly played around and relaxed. I spent quite a while walking the beach for sea glass and even had a couple little kids join me for a bit; I gave them a few pieces, loved now excited they were!
We opened our camera here also and it no longer worked after this so I posted these few pics just because they are the last fishie pics of the trip.
No Olowalu day is complete without Leoda's!
We headed back to Lahaina next to wander around and shop a little... of course I found flowers to photograph even at the free parking lot.
We got home in time to enjoy the sunset from our lanai.
...two more days to go

By the time we left we literally had to chase the sunset to get a good view; it was gorgeous thanks to the vog that day.

...two more days to go
